In a nutshell, what is The Unit Diet?
In a nutshell, The Unit Diet is a healthy eating weight loss plan. You are allocated a daily Unit allowance along with a huge list of zero foods. Zero Foods are food and drink items that can be eaten freely, without weighing, in quantities of your choice! By following The Unit Diet you will lose weight!
Can I follow The Unit Diet on my own without support?
Yes. Our book comes with unlimited help should you need it. The diet is very easy to understand and most members find they do not need any help along the way, but we're always here if you get stuck!
I am a fussy eater, what will I be able to eat on this diet?
You can eat any food you want! The worst thing any weight loss programme can do is to deny you your favourite foods. Our approach is simple, have what you want as long as you stick to your Unit allowance! Have a look at what a Typical Day on The Unit Diet might look like.
Do I need to buy lots of other books to follow The Unit Diet?
No. The material and information provided with your Complete Unit Diet book is sufficient to follow the diet successfully. This one book contains everything you could possibly need, including a full Unit directory, Eating Out Guide, Daily Menu Plans, Recipes, plus more!
What is a Zero Food ?
Zero Food is a term we give to food items that can be eaten freely and in any quantity on The Unit Diet. Our Zero Foods are satisfying, low in fat and have a low energy density. This means that you can use them to fill up on without worrying about Unit values. Some members may find that they need to limit their Zero Food consumption as they approach their goal weight.
What are Units?
A Unit is a term we use that allows members to keep track of what food/drink they have consumed. Units are calculated from a scientifically formulated Matrix of Fat (g) and Calorie values. By knowing the calorific and fat content of a food or drink item members can easily check the Matrix for the Unit value.
I am vegetarian, can I follow The Unit Diet?
Yes, in fact you may find it easier than some of our 'meat eating' members. On The Unit Diet foods like Potatoes, Vegetables and Quorn are all 'zero' foods. Items like Pasta, Rice, Pulses and Beans are all very low in Units. The Unit Diet is suitable for everyone, as no foods are banned.
Can I still enjoy my Saturday night Takeaway?
Yes you can. No diet will be successful if you deny yourself the foods you love. As long as you remain in control of the food you are eating, and have high Unit food in moderation you will be fine. Domino's Pizza is especially good, with many whole Pizzas coming in under your daily Unit allowance!
I have a special occasion coming up, what should I do ?
You don't have to do anything. At Jigsaw Slimming we see special occasions as 'just that' - a special occasion. The last thing you want to do is sit there counting your Units while friends/family relax and let their hair down. Forgetting about your Units for one night isn't going to ruin your diet, in fact allowing yourself this break maintains a healthy attitude towards losing weight and prevents the 'guilt factor' often associated with dieting.
I'm a busy mum. Can my children eat the same food as me?
Yes, unless your children have any specific dietary requirements of course. The food recommended on The Unit Diet is wholesome, healthy food. Even though convenience foods can be eaten, it's far better for you to cook your own meals. Class members have access to recipes each week during the meeting. Postal members can request recipes by email from their membership consultant.
What happens when I get to my goal weight ?
At Jigsaw Slimming we do not see your goal weight as the end of the journey, therefore we do not ask you to make radical changes to your eating plan. We ask you to re-take the Daily Unit Allowance Quiz in your membership book and adjust your daily unit allowance accordingly. By doing this you are able to maintain your weight loss with minimum effort
I have a medical condition. Can I still follow The Unit Diet?
The Unit Diet is a 'free choice' diet. Our members choose exactly what they want to eat each day. So as long as you are allowed to eat wholesome, low fat foods you should be fine following The Unit Diet. Units are calculated using a food or drink's Calorie and Fat content, this means that no foods are forbidden and every food can be incorporated into the diet easily. We recommend everyone discuss their diet plans with their GP before starting a diet or weight loss programme
